Q: What is a Merchant Account?
A: A Merchant Account is an account, which is set up between a merchant
bank and a retailer. This allows the retail company to accept credit
cards from a customer and receive funds from the transactions into a
designated bank account.
An Internet merchant account is more rigid than an ordinary merchant
account because of the higher risk associated with transactions which
are not processed in a person to person environment (with a live signature).

transactions. It checks against a European polling register (An Electoral
Roll) instead of AVS for European cards. It also access’ the CyberSource
International negative database. This system has been screening transaction

built ‘artificial intelligence’, which learns from each transaction.
